College and Convergence

Goodbye PSEO, I will miss you and the free college credit you have provided me. I will not, however, miss the hours upon hours of work that my studio art classes required *cough*screen printing*cough*. Nice knowing you! :bye:

What's really weird to think is that, with all the college classes I've taken, I'm now just 6 credits shy of having 1/4 of the required credits needed to graduate.

...Meaning I've almost completed my full Freshman year of college, and I haven't even signed up for an Orientation date yet. If I take a couple summer courses, I could potentially graduate within three years! :excited:

In other news, I'm going to be a panelist at this year's Convergence, a scifi/anime/gaming convention that's held during the summer.

For anyone who doesn't know, a panel is basically an hour-long event where a group of people all meet to discuss a certain subject. Up to six panelists can preside over any one panel, and their job is to pretty much lead the discussion.

The panels I'm going to be presiding over:
"When is a stick figure not Enough?"
A panel discussing webcomics

"Growing up Geek"
A panel where young adults talk about growing up nerds

"Fanfiction"
Obviously, a panel about fanfiction

"Teen Anime and Manga"
A panel for teens discussing their favorite anime and manga

"What's Wrong with the Japanese?"
A panel about understanding the eccentricities of Japanese culture, instead of writing them off as being weirdos.

I'm also planning to exhibit my art in the Convergence Art Show.
Anyone who's attending Convergence this year should totally come to my panels and check out my art!

GEN! It's been forever. Are you going to Anime Detour 2010? You should! I have a wonderful skit idea and I want to know if you're going!
Hey!! :glomp: Long time no see! I do intend to go to Detour if at all possible, and I'd love to be in your skit. What do you have in mind for it?

Get ready for it........

POKEMON//OTHER ANIME CROSSOVER BATTLE SKIT!! X D

The other idea was a Yugioh related skit where there's a drinking game...
Pegasus likes his "fruit juice," lol.

Do you have a facebook? I can send you the scripts on there.
I sure do, just send me a friend message. All you need to do is accept the friend request I just sent you!

The Yu-Gi-Oh skit sounds a bit iffy... I mean, there's just no good way to realkistically duplicate Yugi's hair. But the Pokemon skit sounds fun! Send me the script right away!

I have indeed! It was okay, but I wasn't impressed by how they tried to twist the story. Hyde seemed more like a drugged-up, drug-dealing wannabe sadist than a truly frightening psychopath. All of the other characters seemed a bit off too, I just couldn't sympathize with any of them.

Overall, the movie just seemed like a rather elaborate way to say "don't do drugs - unless you want go crazy, deal drugs, murder your friends and then commit suicide", while only using the Jekyll and Hyde material as a pretext for their own message.

I'm interested in hearing what you thought on it, too. Did you think it seemed really "Jekyll and Hyde' enough?

I didn't see the whole thing, but I saw a pair of scenes. Not bad acting, if we consider that those actors were almost amateur.
It is clearly an anti-drug movie (what was that? A mix of Ecstasy and some other crap, is it?) , which used Jekyll and Hyde name only to get fame.
The original Jekyll was enjoying being Hyde at first, absolutely. Plus, Hyde was a different personality, not a simple Jekyll gone crazy after being on drugs.
At least drugs may alter your behaviour, give you allucinations, not split your personality (I guess, at least) into a separate, not to mention self-thinking entity.

So I guess that it didn't seem enough "Jekyll and Hyde" to me.

I discovered by searching on youtube, that there were tons of different movies. The last one I saw, I can't find it anywhere, is this.

I can't find an Italian version of the one with Dougray Scott, but if only I was able to find an online video... I can understand even the English one! >___<

Anyway, I bought today John Hannah's version! I simply can't wait to see how it is...all I have to do is wait 3-4 days!
I know he cannot disappoint me! He is a good actor, after all. Too bad that it was an exclusive UK movie, so it did not grow famous.
Having researched the crap out of Mutliple Personality Disorder, I do agree that drugs can't split your personalities off - only horrible psychological pain or trauma can. Going through the transformation would probably do that, what with the skin-melting and the bones and body structure changing. It sounds really painful. You'd think Jekyll would have kept some sort of painkiller on hand to handle the aftereffects...

Anyways, if you want to watch the Dougray Scott version, I found the full English version here: [link]
You'll have to tell me what you think of it.

I've also collected links to quite a few other Jekyll and Hyde movies and such here ([link]) if you feel like checking them out.

Ooh, you'll have to tell me how the John Hannah version is! I've been thinking about buying it, but I wanted to be sure of the quality before I go spending my very limited funds on a movie. I really want to see it though, so tell me if it's any good!

I'm goint to watch Dougray Scott's as soon as possible. For now, I give you a short review of John Hannah's! (may God help me with my sometimes-poor-English :D)

Story: Pretty good, it follows Jekyll's full statement of the case, but with some good variations. Sometimes resembles "Mary Reilly", because there was something tender between Henry and her servant. Jekyll and Hyde are almost the same, there is no noticeable difference, except for the eyes and the voice.
I don't know, there was something Yaoi between Hyde and Jekyll... :D Jekyll uke, of course! I let you discover how much "Yaoi" it looked.

Acting & dub: Italian dub was average. Jekyll's voice was nice, though. Anyway you won't need to know about Italian dub,'cause original language is always better. Hannah's acting was good, he did a good Jekyll and a good Hyde as well. He also looks hot with Blue eyes!^.^

My Vote: 6,5 on 10.
I thought it was better, but it wasn't so bad. It was actually pretty good, so If you are a fan, you can't miss it!
What is a shame: Hyde and Jekyll are the same, there is no change at all, so it is sometimes hard to tell when he's Hyde and when he's Jekyll. So,Hyde was perfectly recognizable, that makes a Hard way for him to have fun and then disappear afterwards.
There was the young girl scene, but Hyde did not stamp her. Curious variation anyway.
There was also a quite interesting part, that explains where Edward Hyde's name came from.
The movie is 96' long, then I can tell that it was a bit hasty. I wish it could have been a bit longer (Mary Reilly was 120' )
Conclusion: Not a bad movie, but not outstanding. Interesting and pretty faithfull to the original, too bad for Hyde and Jekyll's look.
The walking stick was MONDO COOL!

Don't forget I saw the movie once. I'll probably change my review when I see it many times. ^.^
Your English is great so far as I've seen, but a language when spoken can be more difficult to understand than when it's written, especially when people talk fast. :) Well, if you do end up having any trouble (though I doubt you will) I'd be happy to help.

Thanks for giving me your review! I'll definitely try to purchase the movie. There have certainly been worse Jekyll and Hyde adaptations, and any version which actually has an explanation for why and how Hyde comes up with his name gets a bonus in my book (yours included).

Ooh, Jekyll and Hyde yaoi, you say? :eyes: Hot! Jekyll would indeed be the uke. Well, the Dougray Scott movie also has a little something like that, though I won't spoil any more details. You'll just have to watch it to find out.

Hyde/Utterson yaoi might be cool too. Utterson's repressed his desires (sexual and otherwise) for a long time, so I can see Hyde having fun breaking down those barriers to seduce/sexually harass him.
...Hmm, I wonder if I should do anything with this? I feel kind of inspired...

Oh yeah, I found a really funny article about the upcoming Jekyll and Hyde movie, if you want to read it: [link]
