working at work

Wed Dec 2, 2009, 1:02 PM
Have I mentioned how awesome my job is? Well it is. I'm currently sitting in my little private room, waiting for the teacher to come in and start the class so I can tape him. And I have my laptop and some books, and all is happy. How many jobs available to college students allow you to read, draw, do homework or watch anime while working? Not many, I'd guess. Now if only those stupid pipes in the ceiling would stop clunking so damned loudly, I'd be enjoying myself completely.

I can't believe the first semester of my college life is almost over. It's been a big learning experience, and also a lot fun (mostly due to my awesome new friends, who add a big pinch of pizazz to the hours I would normally spend sitting at my laptop, not interacting with anyone. I had a lot t be thankful for this Thanksgiving - an income, the classes I wanted, but what I am most thankful for is the people in my life.

And :iconaorphiusrex:'s novel. I am very thankful to be able to receive exclusive readings from her book. They always make my day.

I have a lot of big art projects to finish in the next few weeks, including more naked people drawings, a final drawing, and three art projects having to do with the myth of Prometheus (my friends and family have already heard about all my ideas troubles from working on this), one of which may cost me around $30-$35 for matches. I'd almost forgotten how expensive art can be. Well, during my wonderful month-long fuyu-yasumi (winter break) I shall have to post lots of art to make up for any delay.

Well, I should get back to working on my Prometheus art project if I want to finish 1/3rd of it tonight. Ja ne!

Baby Pharoah wants milk!

I finally update my journal again, yay! Since now I have friends who might actually read it, and respond. It's a good feeling.
College has been busy, but a good kind of busy. I've actually been creating art again, which is an awesome feeling. I wish I had more free time during some of my days, but otherwise I don't have much to complain about.
I seem to have the weirdest luck going for me. I am going to a good college, taking great classes, living in a great dorm (which serves food that is actually edible) working a great job (which pays great money), and I have made some fantastic friends. What the hell did I do in my past life to deserve all this good fortune?

There are still problems and issues and unhappiness. I just have to keep working to resolve them, look past them, work through them. A best I can. Everything is temporary, after all.
When I'm old and gray, I won't even remember this anyways. Heck, next month I may not remember this. Weird thought, that all the thoughts and sensations you feel at this moment will be swept away like leaves on a river, to be deposited who knows where.

Well, since I seem to have run out of interesting things to write about, I guess I'll just have say "tah tah for now!"

College and Convergence

Goodbye PSEO, I will miss you and the free college credit you have provided me. I will not, however, miss the hours upon hours of work that my studio art classes required *cough*screen printing*cough*. Nice knowing you! :bye:

What's really weird to think is that, with all the college classes I've taken, I'm now just 6 credits shy of having 1/4 of the required credits needed to graduate.

...Meaning I've almost completed my full Freshman year of college, and I haven't even signed up for an Orientation date yet. If I take a couple summer courses, I could potentially graduate within three years! :excited:

In other news, I'm going to be a panelist at this year's Convergence, a scifi/anime/gaming convention that's held during the summer.

For anyone who doesn't know, a panel is basically an hour-long event where a group of people all meet to discuss a certain subject. Up to six panelists can preside over any one panel, and their job is to pretty much lead the discussion.

The panels I'm going to be presiding over:
"When is a stick figure not Enough?"
A panel discussing webcomics

"Growing up Geek"
A panel where young adults talk about growing up nerds

"Fanfiction"
Obviously, a panel about fanfiction

"Teen Anime and Manga"
A panel for teens discussing their favorite anime and manga

"What's Wrong with the Japanese?"
A panel about understanding the eccentricities of Japanese culture, instead of writing them off as being weirdos.

I'm also planning to exhibit my art in the Convergence Art Show.
Anyone who's attending Convergence this year should totally come to my panels and check out my art!

Good Things and Bad Things

Sat Feb 28, 2009, 7:45 PM
So, some good things and some bad things have happened over the course of the past few weeks.

Bad things:

:cries: On Thursday I lost my flash (USB) drive at school, and it may very well be gone forever; along with all of the important documents and files that I had stored on it, and stupidly never backed up on my computer. (I know, I'm a moron)

On it was a lot of creative writing, class aassignments, and some artwork, such as "Towering Gold" of which now my only copy is the jpg I uploaded to Deviantart. So unless some kind soul turned it in to the school Lost & Found upon finding it, instead of taking it home, erasing all of the files on it and claiming it as their own, then I am majorly, MAJORLY screwed over.

Also, I busted my ass night and day working on a woodcutting project for my printmaking course, and there's a good chance I'll get a bad grade despite all my hard work. :X Blaaaaarrgghhgh!

Good Things:

:boogie: Okay, so anybody who read my last journal (which would probably be NOBODY, but oh well) will know that I'm a serious fan of anything related to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (I'm even doing my CIS writing research paper on it =D). Well, just recently I got the pleasure of seeing Jeffrey Hatcher's theatrical adaptation of the Jekyll and Hyde performed at Park Square Theater (twice!!), and I loved it so much I contacted the staff, giving them my gratitude for putting on such an awesome play, and also asking if I could get a recording of the play somehow.

They said that a recording wasn't possible (copyright restrictions and such things), but they would like to make it up to me with free tickets or a signed playbill. I inquired as to whether or not I could get a copy of the play's script, since a recording wasn't possible. The staffpeople didn't reply to my final email for a few weeks, but just today, I got a package in the mail. It was from the theatre, and it contained a playbill (signed by all of the people involved with the play) and a COPY OF THE SCRIPT!! OMG!! :excited:

I was - and I am - just so happy! I love the play, and now I can read it and recite it whenever I wish! Yess!! Hahahaha! Victory is mine! :evillaugh: I'm just so ecstatic, that they took the time and effort to print out a whole copy of the play! WOOOOO!!

Another good thing: my next two college-class projects are SO much easier than than the last two. It's such a relief to have my Eastern Paper and my Woodcutting behind me now.

Also, evening class on Thursday was canceled due to lots of snow. So good to have a day off! :)

So, I'm fluctuating oddly between depression and jubilance right now. Is this what it feels like to be bipolar?

Wow, I just realized I haven't submitted a journal in over six months. I've been so busy, I completely forgot to.

So yeah.... Hi to all you people who may be reading this but probably aren't because I'm a terrible Social Network-er!! At long last, I write words!

This year, I haven't really been getting a lot of drawing done (so I really ought to submit the photos and scans of the few pieces of art I've actually made), since I'm a Senior and I get manipulate my schedule much more freely. I only took three classes in Highschool + two classes at the U last semester, and I'm now taking 3 classes + 2 at the U again this semester. This means that I get to go to school late and leave early, but it also means that I haven't had much drawing time. You see, my best time for drawing has always been during boring blow-off classes, but this year I don't have any. Because of this, I've been getting a little rusty artistically.

However, just because I haven't been drawing doesn't mean I haven't been expressing myself creatively. I'm actually getting pretty decent at writing nowadays, thanks partially to my CIS Literature class (which was SO much fun; the teacher was great, most of our books involved gayness, and I found the group discussions and critical analysis quite enthralling) and partially to fanfiction (believe me, reading other people's shoddy writing really makes you appreciate good grammar, sentence structure and plot all the more). I also enjoy spoken word, when the mood hits me.

I've been super busy lately, what with college applications and such, which I've been resolutely procrastinating on. I still have to finish my portfolio...

Oh yes! Even though nobody cares, I feel obligated to mention my latest fandom/obsession. I'm now watching/reading anything and everything to do with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. After I got hooked on the broadway musical (yes, there is a broadway musical; you can watch it on youtube), I began looking around and downloading various movie adaptations. My favorite by far is the movie "Mary Reilly" (best. Hyde. EVER), but I did like this other movie, a modern adaptation of the story, in which Hyde smooches Jekyll selfcest-style during a dream sequence.
Now that's good cinema!
I also just saw this REALLY amazing play adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde at a local theater. It's written by Jeffrey Hatcher, has an awesome set and it's PERFECT!!!
I nearly cried while I was watching it, it surpassed my expectations so entirely. I am now in the process of contacting the theater to see if I can't get acquire a DVD of the play.
